Dwellicious is set to launch January 7th, 2009 and I thought I would sneak in this post a day early. I’ve been following this web 2.0 app for a while now and the buzz surrounding it has been large! A lot of you may have heard about this already, and my real estate clients have been also talking about it to me quite a bit. Now the idea is of course a clone of Delicious geared towards the real estate crowd, but for both consumers and agents. The folks behind this project were very smart about going about the design, and taking on all the food features of Delcious which makes using this a breeze. Since they had consumers in mind firsthand, this should generate a lot of user traffic and allow for Realtors to get highly targeted leads.

You can sign up already and get started with Dwellicious, and you’ll be happy to hear it works with most web browsers, even Google Chrome! Once you’re ready to go you can start browsing real estate listing, and when you’ve found something you like, it’s a breeze to bookmark with fully detail notes and tags. Of course you have the option to make your findings private or public, and you can easily share with friends and family members. Currently a lot of the web 2.0 real estate websites are already onboard. Some of the sites include Remax, Craigslist, Zillow, Realtor.com and so many more!

From all the clients I deal with, I can easily say that realtors are some of the most techically advanced when it comes to marketing online, so this web app came as no surprise. I would really like to hear back from other Realtors about what they think, and I’ll be bringing this to the attention of the good folks over at Real Estate Webmasters.

LinkedIn Link Building Group

January 6  |  Link Building, News  |   Ryan Clark

I’ve been using LinkedIn a lot lately and started up the first link building group on LinkedIn and would like anyone who wants to join up come on over. It’s always hard starting groups or forums like this up but I hope I can get something decent going. So far I’m all by myself in there talking to a wall so if anyone has the time and wants to, spread the word. I’ve almost given up trying to promote the Link Building Forums because I keep getting hit with Xrumer and other lovely forum spamming bots, so this seemed like the next step. You can search for the group once logged in or follow the link here.

SEO Web Hosting

SEO Web Hosting has become quite popular lately, and if you have a network of sites/blog/whatever you’re most likely wanting to have them each hosted on a separate IP address. A lot of companies have sprung up to offer specific SEO Web Hosting as it has become the buzz word even though most companies have offered this since the dawn of web hosting. It’s a smart move on their part because it made for a great new keyword to reap in tons of clients, and usually clients who were raking it in themselves. There are a handful of dedicated SEO Web Hosting companies and I thought I would list a few, ranked as I seem them now on Google according to the Google Dance Tool.

SEO Web Hosting is a full fledge managed hosting company that specializes in SEO Web Hosting. They’ve done a great job building up their backlink profile, and with a domain like that it’s no wonder why they’re holding down the number one position in Google for the term. They do a great job of splitting up the IP’s and the prices are very affordable, but if you’re in this game money shouldn’t be a problem. You can take a look at their SEO Hosting Packages or contact them at 570-574-9067. I must say though they need to get an email contact form up on their website….this is 2009 after all :)

SEO Hosting is another powerhouse SEO Hosting company that is backed by none of than Host Gator. I’m an affiliate of theirs but they have no banners or links under their program for this, so that would be nice (hint hint). Since this is with Host Gator prices are very reasonable and hosting plans start as low as $35/month and go all the way up to $544/month. The site also offers some run of the mill SEO tools and a blog that also features run of the mill blog posts…if you guys ever need a guest post let me know!

I will be updating this thread throughout the blogs lifespan and make sure to add new companies that offer SEO Web Hosting services. If I missed a company please let me know through my contact form or leave a comment in this post. I’ve also been wondering what Google might think of this as an SEO technique….border line greyhat or do you folks think its all good? I personally think it is a viable tactic, but I do see the blackhat possibilities with use a SEO Web Hosting setup for a blog network.

Link Building With WebmasterCatalog.com

January 4  |  Internal Link Building  |   Ryan Clark

Webmaster Catalog is a quality web directory that has ushered in the web 2.0 touches to make it a complete webmaster resource. I don’t find myself doing a lot of directory link building these days unless it is with very authoritative paid directories, or very authoritative free directories. I’ve been using Link Voodoo to put a quality score on all my my link building efforts recently, and Webmaster Catalog scored 59% which is pretty damn good.

The directory is human edited and from what I’ve seen is that the sites going into the directory have to be quality, and it has made the site top notch as far as directories go. I’m not sure if the script used is custom or not, but it brings in a set of great listing features that go beyond title/description. If you check out the Linkbuildr profile page I got once approved, you’ll be able to see all the features they offer. All the links are do follow, so you get an anchor text of your choice(if approved) as well do follow links through an archive of your RSS feed. Users can also write reivews and rank your site, so if you’d like to drop me a review feel free…I won’t mind :)

301 Redirection Management Plugin For WordPress

January 4  |  Internal Link Building, Wordpress SEO  |   Ryan Clark

I’ve just implemented this awesome plugin across my WordPress blog network, including Linkbuildr, and I’m in love and no longer worry about the problems I would otherwise face without it. Redirection is a WordPress plugin to manage 301 redirections and keep track of 404 errors which if you have a large site can become a mess. If you ever are migrating a domain, or changing the structure if your website you’ll not want to do it without this plugin. I’ve gone back and deleted a lot of old posts that I felt were unethical with my practices, so this is also helping in redirecting the web traffic I’m still getting. I’ve taken the features list from the authors blog, Urban Giraffe;

Features include:

  • Supports both WordPress-based and Apache-based redirections
  • 404 error monitoring – captures a log of 404 errors and allows you to easily map these to 301 redirects
  • RSS feed for 404 errors
  • Custom ‘pass-through’ redirections allowing you to pass a URL through to another page, file, or website.
  • Full logs for all redirected URLs
  • Create redirections based upon a URL, browser, referring site, or login status
  • Automatically add a 301 redirection when a post’s URL changes
  • Full regular expression support
  • Fully localized
  • Export all redirections to CSV, XML, or Apache .htaccess files
  • Import Apache .htacces files

This plug is in the end all for 301’s and 404’s and if you check out the homepage for the Redirection WordPress Plugin, you’ll get a thorough walk through of all the features. For the most part you’ll be able to just install it and configure it as you see fit, and if you’ve never played around with 301’s, 404’s and .htaccess then you’ll need to sit down and do a little reading. So if you’re ready to get rocking you can go download the plugin.

Forumlinkbuilding.com Review Through The Eyes Of A Link Builder

January 2  |  Link Building  |   Ryan Clark

I recently had a client want me to go ahead and purchase a package through ForumLinkBuilding.com and I will admit I’ve heard of them before, but never paid too much attention. I will warn you I’m not one to bash people but I’d to give you my opinion on why you should not use this service as it’s pretty much spam. I still think Link building with forum signatures can be a viable option if you’re heavily involved within the community, and the forum is related to your niche.

So they offer 3 different packages which include link building on a wide range of forums, niche related or not, it doesn’ matter. The packages also come with some directory submissions and what not…pretty standard. The prices for the packages range from $400-$7000….yes $7000 for apparently 6,000 guaranteed one way links. I first thought there is no way a human is active in the forums contributing in any positive way possible so I set off to see for myself and my client.

They have a client testimonial section which links to actual clients and their domains. This made it real easy for me to analyze the backlink profile of those sites listed, as well the companies main domain. For all the clients there were only a few forum signature links showing up in their profiles, and the posts checked out to what I guessed all along. Sure enough the forum posts that were still active came from bot generated accounts with 1-3 posts, and those posts were always along the lines of “this post has a lot of great information in it” etc etc etc. Not only that but those clients were not ranking anywhere for the keywords they were targeting. No surprise there either.

This was just one of dozens of examples of the forum posting you’re getting and a lot of the accounts I came across were of course banned. The company itself uses its own services to promote their link building packages, a lot of it came from forums but at least they were webmaster forums. That’s fine and legit, they all have services sections. But diving deeper more of the same spam was easily noticable with a quick glance using Link Diagnosis.

Google search results for forum member names used lead me on more discoveries of the same type of spam all over the place. So one of the few things we can get out of this is that if you want to get links out of forum signatures you’re going to have to put some human effort into it, and not be spammy. Needless to say I had to inform my client that going this route would be in poor judgement and be only hurtful in the long run. I do not condone techniques like this but I’ll let the rest of you folks be the judge of that.

Calculating TrustRank With Link Voodoo

December 31  |  Link Building Tools, News  |   Ryan Clark

I’m happy to announce the launch of Link Voodoo Beta for the new year and it is the beginning of the project I have been working on with two amazing people. My good friends who also programmed, designed and run InfoBarrel have teamed up with me to put together what will be the most complete link building tool on the them Internets. We need your input on what you like and don’t like about this first installment so please leave comments, bad or good.

So currently what is in operation is the very Beta version which calculates a pages TrustRank score based on a set of factors we determined. We want to help people determine if they’re getting links from quality websites, or pages and make your link building efforts more worth the while. This tool, plus a few tweaks, will always remain free and the next installments of “Pro Tools” we will bring on board will be available at a very reasonable cost. I cannot say much about what that will entail, but I assure you it will make your mouth water!

So as I stated in the first paragraph, we need your user input on what sucks and what doesn’t. Please bare with us as we fix things and break things. If anyone bloggers want to write about the tool I would be more than happy to bring you on board for sneak peeks and what’s coming next as well bring you on board as Pro Tools testers.

Currently you can see all the factors that determine your TrustRank, and within a week we will have full backlink and anchor test reporting so you can check your links, or your competitors. We will also have a keyword ranking/position tracker in place soon enough to make it more complete. So I hope you all find this useful and I’m looking forward in hearing some feedback!

The Worio Search Engine In Review

December 31  |  Link Building, Social Media Sites  |   Ryan Clark

I recently came across Worio which is a relatively new search engine that brings some new twists to the search engine game, and I’m pretty impressed. The layout and feel of the site flows nicely with a clean web 2.0 feel in both the design and social interaction. Worio is set out to not only provide the way we search as we know it, but also influence how you find things through friends, new blogs and other social media aspects. This search engine was developed in my homeland at the University of British Columbia and they do a decent job of not getting the word out locally. Worio learns about your interests and dislikes through your searching habits, so the more you search and tag, the better you’ll get the content you’re looking for.

What does “Worio” mean? Worio is an acronym based on “Web of Research”, the name we gave to the group of researchers that came together at UBC to develop this project.

You can also search the oldies but goodies like Google, Yahoo and MSN through Worio to further the learning experience. Now the links within the search results are dofollow, as well as popular links within the right sidebar but I’m not sure if you’ll see much link love. Currently the search engine only has a couple hundred pages indexed so I wouldn’t expect to see a lot of traffic or links just yet. As a SEO consultant I love seeing how other people are trying to come up with ways to bring my search results, and I hope Worio succeeds in the long run.
