I thought this would be a good read for anyone of any skill level, link builder or not. Google has a lot of patents and I’ve been wading through them in what is left of my spare time. They usually give a good insight into what Google is currently implementing, and what they might consider in the future. Google Follows Twitter Links?

Well it is not secret that Google doesn’t always pay attention to the nofollow code. Don’t believe me? That’s fine I don’t really care. There’s nothing wrong with a nofollow link in the first place, at least that’s what I think. You have to have them, they’re natural and they make your link profile look good, so what’s going on with Twitter here? Well I’ve done my own testing, so should you, but some folks at Webmaster World got a discussion going on about Twitter links. Seems a brand new site was indexed and ranked pretty quickly from just a Tweet…let me know what you think.

Strange Google Listing Result

I was just Googling around for some local search stuff, non client related when I came across this strange anomaly within the SERPs. Forgive me if this isn’t something new, but I’ve never seen a Google listing pick up those characters from on page like this before, and it surely caught my eye. The link goes to a local Craigslist ad in which you can see why Google picked this up and is now showing it as is…so strange! Anyone got anything to say about this?

How Does Google Treat Links From Social Sites

Here’s the latest question that Matt Cutts got asked by Mani from Delhi. Mani is trying to see how Google treats links from social media sites like Twitter and Facebook…ok not a bad question. While it reminds me of the kind of crap you’d hear on Digital Point, it’s not a bad n00b question. What caught my ear was the point about how .edu and .gov links don’t pass any more value that some .com. So many people are under the illusion that extra link weight is giving to those domain extensions.
what a lot of people who are just getting into the world of link building must understand that it’s the domain’s overall stance that gives out a certain power of link juice. So why do people obsess about getting .edu and .gov links? Well that’s mainly because of the hype, but for the most part those .edu/gov pages have been indexed and around for years and years. Most websites don’t really deserve links from sites like these, and the spam to obtain them is going to do nothing but bring it all down.

Twitter Showing In Google Search Results

I just read on the AIM Clear Blog about Twitter showing up in Google search results and although I socially did my sharing of his article, I’ll let you folks know in case you missed it. You can see by the picture I just took what to expect and I’d start thinking how you can use this to your marketing advantage. They’re showing up at the top now and if that becomes mainstream, I’d want to have a game plan in mind.

December 2008 PageRank Update?

I’ve been hearing chatter down the pipeline about a Google PageRank update in the works. There has been reports of a lot of people losing their PageRank, so I’m hoping everyone is getting smarter when it comes to building links. It is only getting tougher out there and that’s why I try and promote quality link building to make sure you keep on moving ahead. I know PageRank is not much of a factor these days, but I still change my mind on that if your site hits the Page Rank 5 and up range. I’ve been building up this site nicely and I haven’t seen movement in my PageRank for a long time, but I’ve seen a lot of positive movement within the SERPs, so I must be doing something right! If you check out my backlinks profile you’ll notice I keep things tight, and try and get links from related sites only. So if you’ve seen any movement within your PageRank let us all know so we can see if something bigger is going on!
Google’s Note This Feature And Its Future In The Algorithm

I haven’t seen too much banter lately on the Google “Note This” feature within the search listings so I thought I’d see what you guys had to say. I’ve been noting my stuff and other sites for the past 6 months, unfortunately there really isn’t a way to tell if it has had any effect. I have no doubt in my mind this data will be used within Google’s ranking algorithm, just when is the question. How many of you have been using the Note This feature?
