Would You Pay For Link Building Resources?
Just thought I’d drop this out there because I’m thinking certain things over. I know I sometimes get flack for releasing certain link building tips and sometimes I just can’t help myself. The blog has been lacking in actual tips lately and although I have 206 drafts with goodies waiting(please don’t hack me :), I won’t be releasing 3/4 of it to the public.
I have a huge Ecommerce SEO/Link Building/SMM post/book that’s awaiting release and I’m wondering if I should charge a fee to view the post or not.
So….would you pay for the goods or should I release it all for everyone to “exploit”?
Matt Cutts On NoFollow
Jen Lopez from SEOmoz met up with Matt Cutts at SES to have a quick chat about NoFollow and its uses. The video is short and doesn’t get into much detail but it’s still a short, fun watch especially if you’re bored at your desk.
Connect With Me Socially
I’ve been so bogged down with client work and my own Ecommerce project I’ve had little time to write a good post. I have a few in the works that are going to help a lot of you out there, and I still have an Ecommerce SEO/Link Building guide in the works. I’ve had to cut down on the resources in that article or I think I’d have to charge for the information :)
We setup an Ecommerce shop a little under a year ago and have come a long way in regards to the marketing aspects, so I hope to bring a lot to the table with my guide. Building links naturally for an online shop is a little bit tougher, and if you don’t have money to put into it, I wouldn’t bother trying to compete.
I wanted to take the time here to connect with you folks socially and become friends on the various social networks. If you have an account on any of the following feel free to add me as a friend, and if you like, send over some content you think I’d like to see.
Anchor Text Penalty While Link Building
Chris (cemper) is one of the most respected link builders out there and it is due time that I started getting his videos up here for everyone to see. This video brings out something very interesting you don’t hear about in the open too often. I know I’ve run into this problem many times and it is just one of the pitfalls of link building.
Chris has a German real estate client who has been online for 10 years and has naturally developed around 100,000 links(give or take site wides :). The problem started when they built some links to a few new content pages, and then got filtered via Google’s anchor text sniffer. Take a listen and learn a thing or two that might save you some time and trouble down the road.

PokeSEO Goes Live
The world finally has its first SEO application for the iPhone thanks to Tanner Christensen and John Cotant. PokeSEO is its name and on the go statistics is its game. I know that most of my readers are most likely the same as me, and are heavily addicted to stats. With PokeSEO you should be able to get your fix anywhere you can find a wifi connection.
I wanted to write about the app mainly because Tanner and John put in a backlinks feature which caught my eye. So what does PokeSEO do? It’s simple and it’s beautiful because you get on the spot statistics like a site PageRank, as well you get backlink numbers from 4 of the major search engines. The backlink data comes from Google, Yahoo, MSN and AOL. To top it all off you can then fire off a report to your clients, yourself or your boss on the weekend while you’re on the golf course.
PokeSEO also automatically updates with fixes and new features so you never have to worry about re-downloading the latest version. As most iPhone apps, you don’t have to pay much to get a lot and you can have this app for only $1.99 USD!
I have 5 promo codes. The first 5 people to tweet about this post and then email me will receive their promo code. If you’d like to get in touch with the fine folks that put this app together then you can DM them on Twitter.
Vertical Measures “Boost Your Juice” Contest
I got an email from Arnie over at Vertical Measures about a pretty awesome contest they have going on. While Arnie was speaking at SMX this week I thought I’d help spread the word about the serious prizes and what you need to do. Let me tell you that the prizes are so good I was thinking of getting some fake ID and signing up. I could be Linky McBuildr or Mclinklovin :)
So they’ve called out all your business owners out there to create a small writeup of 200 words or less, or a 3 minute video stating why your business deserves 1st prize. If you win that you’re looking at $5000 worth of link building done by the team over at Vertical Measures. Second place is still looking to get $1000 worth of link building, and this could take your business to the next level.
The contest stops taking submissions on June 15th 2009, so you better get your ass in gear and submit your application. They have a great judge panel that you’ll need to win over and you can see the entire list on the contest page.
Don’t Forget Aboutus.org
Almost every SEO Consultant is aware of Aboutus.org, but from what I’ve seen a lot of webmasters, bloggers and SEO’s do not take full advantage of what they offer. For those of you who don’t know what it is, it’s basically an about your website page that is powered by a Wiki and some custom technology. It’s arguably the most popular site like it, and it gets the most love in Google’s eyes.
Aboutus catalogs over 10 million websites, has 26 million pages indexed and does a grade A job of internal linking. If you want to see how a site sculps their page rank by the books then hunt around Aboutus with your favorite SEO browser plugin. I haven’t done too much editing to the Linkbuildr Aboutus Page, but as you can see I’ve done some editing which is more than I can say about others.
If you’re working on a client, or wanting a SEO boost then I highly recommend paying for an Aboutus Sponsor Review. For $197 USD you get can have their staff write a review of your webiste/business which will get you a content rich profile page. This can include video, audio and as well you get the benefit of dofollow links. The free pages limit you to nofollow and less social media features, but it is still worth the time to fill out. I’ll be working more heavily on mine over the weekend and I suggest everyone do so as well!
**Update
Kristina from Aboutus was too kind in coming here and giving me some more information. If you want to make a great page you can have the option of getting a couple dofollow links. check out the ProFollow tips and you could be on your way to more SEO benefits.
